NIGERIAN musician Darlington Achakpo (popularly known as Speed Darlington) has regained freedom after nearly a month in police custody.
The update was shared by his counsel, Stanley Alieke, via Instagram, where he confirmed the court’s decision. “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” he wrote, though details surrounding the bail terms were not disclosed.
Speed Darlington was arrested on 27 November 2024 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, over allegations of verbally abusing Afrofusion superstar Burna Boy. The arrest sparked conversations online, with fans expressing mixed reactions. The arrest and detention was the second time in two months.
His counsel, Deji Adeyanju, claimed that Burna Boy was behind his arrest and detention.
Adeyanju also assured the public that the rapper would either be arraigned within 48 hours or released on bail.
“Our FREP application for Speed Darlington has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time but justice will always prevail,” he wrote.
