AN Igbosere Chief Magistrate Court sitting in the Tinubu area, Lagos, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police to remand an alleged internet fraud, Adelaja Oluwafemi (popularly called Yahoo boy), in police custody for 30 days.
Chief Magistrate B. A. Sonuga made the remand order following a Motion Ex-Parte filed and moved before the court by Mr Morufu Animashaun, a legal officer in the Legal Department of Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) annexe, Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos
The Motion Ex-Parte in the suit marked: M/373/2024 dated 9 September 2024, according to the police lawyer, was brought pursuant to sections 264(1), (2) (3), (4) & (6) & 267 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State 2021(as amended) and sections 4 and 10 of the Police Act 2020.
Animashaun also told the court that his application was brought pursuant to sections 6 (6), 35 (1) (C), (5) & (7) (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
He said the application was predicated on four grounds attached with four exhibits as well as a written submission. He added that all was filed in line with the rules of the honourable court.
He prayed the court for an order for the remand of the suspects/defendants for a period of 30 days in the custody of the police at FCID Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos State, for further investigation of the case in the case of alleged conspiracy, Advance Fee Fraud and stealing.
After listening to his submission, Chief Magistrate Sonuga granted the motion as prayed, ordered that the defendant be remanded for a period of 30 days and subsequently adjourned to 15 October 2024 for mention.
