A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja earlier today remanded a man, Obiesan Sultan, in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a four-year minor (name withheld).
Sultan was arraigned on a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration preferred against him by the Lagos State government.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice Rahman Oshodi adjourned the case until 6 March 2025 for the commencement of trial.
Justice Oshodi ordered the remand of the defendant in the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre where he is currently being held.
The State Counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo informed the court that the prosecution intended to call four witnesses and that a Yoruba interpreter would be required.
Okeowo told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on 9 October 2023 at about 9.30 a.m. on Ojewale Street, Soluyi, Gbagada, in Lagos.
She alleged that the defendant defiled the alleged survivor by inserting his penis into her vagina.
The prosecution also alleged the defendant of sexually assaulting the minor by inserting his fingers into her vagina.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offence violates sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
