THE Murtala Muhammed Airport Cargo Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated a total sum of ₦21,362,752,676.44 as revenue in the first quarter of the year 2023.
Speaking with newsmen at the Command’s first press briefing for the year, the new Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, who succeeded Comptroller Sambo Dangaladima, said the Command witnessed a 21.9% increase in revenue collection in comparison to the same period in 2022.
“It is pertinent to note that in the corresponding period of 2022, the Command generated ₦17,513,457,869. 20. This shows a progressive difference of the sum of ₦3,849,294,807.22”, he noted.
Speaking on anti-smuggling activity, he said that the Command recorded a total seizure of twenty-three (23) packages of pharmaceutical products which included twenty-two (22) packages of Tramadol (225mg) and twelve (12) packages of Tramadol (120mg) tablets from the shed of the Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Limited (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCO).
According to him, the Tramadol tablets were seized as they were above the threshold allowed by law to be imported into the country. “They were concealed and imported into the country through India and Pakistan. The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizure stood at N1.8 billion”, he further revealed.
The CAC however stated that the seized drugs will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action.
In the area of export, he stated that the Command recorded the export of goods worth ₦100,937,172.26.
The exported goods include non-commercial and commercial foods with a total weight of 653 tonnes and a Free On Board (FOB) value of ₦4,812, 780,701.69k.
”The Command is working hard to promote export businesses to boost forex earnings for the country” the CAC emphasized.
