FOLLOWING the death of a 12-year-old girl, Whitney Adeniran, the Lagos State Government through its Ministry of Education, has ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School, Opebi-Ikeja, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The state government said that the ongoing investigations would allow for a proper understanding of what transpired before, during, and after the incident.
The Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, announced the closure of Whitney’s school on Sunday through a statement made available to newsmen.
meanwhile, Adefisayo commiserated with the family of the deceased girl and promised that the state government would ensure free and fair investigations and that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
According to the statement, “On behalf of the state Ministry of Education, commiserated with Mr. and Mrs. Adeyemi, parents of Whitney, and prayed for the repose of her soul.
“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends, and acquaintance of Whitney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident”, the Commissioner stated.
The state government directives came hours after the deceased girl’s father recommended that the school be shut, to allow for proper investigations on the 12years old girl’s death.
