A dispatch rider has reportedly lost his life no thanks to fatal multiple accidents on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.
Two other victims of the accident, which occurred near Chevron, heading toward Ikota,
sustained serious fractures, “and were rushed to a nearby hospital by a good Samaritan who was driving along the expressway“, a statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA’s) Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq stated. According to the LASTMA’s spokesman, a preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident revealed that a high-capacity ‘T&M’ bus, marked AKD 952 XZ, while on top speed, developed brake failure and collided with an oncoming ‘KIA RIO car, with registration number BDG 853 DA.
“The impact caused the KIA RIO to crash into a dispatch motorcycle (KTU 695 QK) in the opposite direction”, the statement disclosed, adding that the rider died on the spot.
Operatives of Ajiwe and Ilasan Police stations were at the scene to provide security during the rescue operations conducted by LASTMA personnel and other emergency responders.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and sympathised with the two injured victims.
He also urged motorists, particularly high-capacity bus drivers, to ensure that their vehicles are in proper working condition, especially the brake system, before embarking on any journey within or outside the state.
