PRESIDENT-ELECT of the United States of America, Mr Donald Trump, has reiterated his controversial immigration plans, emphasizing a commitment to deporting undocumented immigrants and ending birthright citizenship.
In a recent statement, the Republican Party candidate in last month’s election outlined a strategy that aims to enforce stricter immigration laws and initiate the largest mass deportation effort in U.S. history.
As part of his agenda, Trump plans to dismantle policies from the Joe Biden administration and implement large-scale detentions of undocumented individuals already residing in the country.
His administration is preparing to expand detention facilities and revive the “remain in Mexico” programme, which requires migrants to wait in Mexico while their U.S. immigration proceedings are ongoing.
Trump stated, “We must ensure a strong and formidable border while welcoming individuals to our country,” asserting that immigration should be lawful. He has made it clear that there will be no price tag for his mass deportation plan, viewing it as a necessity for national security.
One of the most significant changes he proposes is an executive order to end birthright citizenship, which grants citizenship to any child born on U.S. soil, regardless of their parents’ legal status. Trump aims to require at least one parent to be a lawful permanent resident or citizen for their child to receive citizenship benefits.
As Trump prepares to take office 20th of January 2025 his administration’s focus on immigration is expected to lead to significant changes in U.S. policy, raising concerns about potential impacts on families and communities across the nation.
