AHEAD of the Edo State governorship election, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum and Rivers State governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, among others, have stormed Benin City, the state capital.
The party stalwarts are in the state for the PDP grand finale rally in the Oredo Local Government Area of the state.
PDP revealed this in a short post with pictures and videos of their arrival on its official X handle on Saturday.
“Join us in Oredo, Benin City as we make history and march towards victory,” the post reads in part.
In another post, the party states: “The NWC will join forces with other party leaders, the Edo State PDP chapter, to mobilise support for our party’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the scheduled Saturday 21 September 2024 Election.
“Edo State is crucial to our party’s success in the South-South, and we are committed to ensuring victory for our candidate.
“We urge all our party faithful and supporters to join us in Oredo, Benin City as we march towards victory.”.
The governorship election is scheduled to be held on 21 September 2024.
The party’s governorship candidate at the poll is Asue Ighadolo, who is hoping to take over from the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, also a chieftain of the PDP.
