EFCC Files Fresh 26 Counts Charge Against Ex-CBN Gov, Emefiele

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a fresh 26 counts charge against the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele and another before a Lagos Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja.  

Emefiele will be arraigned alongside Henry Isioma Omole on a 26-count charge before Justice Rahman Oshodi, for alleged abuse of office over allocation of billions of United States dollars.

The charge marked ID/23787c/2024, and dated 3 April 2024 was filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.

Emefiele was said to have allegedly abused his office between 2022 and 2023, in Lagos. The alleged offence is punishable under the provision of Section 73 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

He was alleged of an arbitrary act, to wit: allocating foreign exchange in the aggregate sum of $2,136,391,737.33 without bids, which act is prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians.

The ex-CBN Governor allocated foreign exchange in the aggregate sum of $291,945,785.59 and $1,769,254,793.16, without bids, which act is prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians

Part of the count read that,  Emefiele’s co-defendant Omoile was alleged of, “about the 17th of November, 2020, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court whilst acting as an agent accepted from Raja Punjab through Monday Osazuwa, the total sum of $110,000, for Godwin Ifeanyi  Emefiele, gifts as a reward for allocating foreign exchange by the Central Bank in favorr of Raja Punjab’s employer.”
