EFCC Recovers ₦900m Unremiitted NHIS Funds From Commercial Banks

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has recovered an additional sum of ₦900 million for the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS.

The spokesman for the Commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed in a statement on Saturday.

He alleged that the sum was part of the money which some deposit money banks fraudulently withheld since 2015 and refused to remit into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) for NHIS.

According to him, the recovered sum was released to NHIS on 8th February.

He noted that the Commission, had on 10th February 2022, released to the NHIS, ₦1.5 billion recovered from the banks.

The EFCC had also on 5th August 2022, released ₦1.4 billion to the scheme.

The Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Muhammad Sambo, had on 29th July 2021, praised EFCC for assisting NHIS in the recovery of funds trapped in commercial banks.
