EFCC Slams Four-Count Money Laundry Charge Against Ex-Lagos Attorney-General

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a four-count-charge money laundering offence against a former Lagos State Attorney-General (AG) and Justice Commissioner, Mr Olasupo Shasore (SAN) before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The anti-graft agency in a charge alleged Shasore (SAN) who was the Lagos State Attorney-General and Justice Commissioner during Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola’s led administration of committing the offences on or about 18 November 2014.

Shasore was alleged to have induced one Olufolakemi Adelore, in accepting a cash payment of the sum of $100, 000. 00, USD, without going through a financial institution.

He was also alleged to have made a cash payment of the sum of $100, 000.00 USD to Olufolakemi Adelore through Auwalu Habu and Wole Aboderin.

In the charge, it was stated that the former AG made a cash payment of the sum of $100, 000.00 USD, to one Ikechukwu Oguine without going through a financial institution.

His offences contravened sections 78(c); 1(a) and 16(1)(d) and 18(c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and were punishable under sections 16(6) and 16 (2)(b) of the same Act.

However, the arraignment has been fixed for 20 October 2022

Part of the charge read: “That you Olasupo Shasore (SAN), on or about the 18th day of November 2014 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court induced Olufolakemi Adelore to commit an offence, to wit, accepting cash payment of the sum of US100, 000.00 without going through a financial institution which such exceeded the amount authorised by law and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 78(c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under section 16(6) of the same Act.
