A rampaging group of protesters, during a street procession today, invaded and vandalised the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Daura, Katsina State. Daura is the ancestral home of the immediate past Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari.
Operating under the guise of the 10-day protests called by youths across the country to ventilate their grievances against the harsh economic policies of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, the youths exercised no restraint at ensuring that the edifice became a shadow of its old self.
A video of the incident currently circulating on social media shows the irate youth wreaking havoc on the building.
The peaceful protests, which commenced last Thursday across most parts of the country, have, in the last few days, taken a violent slant and have proved difficult for security agencies to contain, especially in northern Nigeria.
Video footage circulating on social media shows a large crowd of young people forcibly entering the APC secretariat in Daura.
They can be seen removing the roof of the building and destroying other facilities in the building.
The protests, which began in response to a severe economic crisis and skyrocketing inflation, have spread across various states, including Katsina.
Eyewitnesses report that the atmosphere in Daura was charged as the youths, driven by frustration over worsening living conditions, targeted the APC secretariat.
In response to the escalating situation, security forces have been deployed to monitor the protests and prevent further violence.
