OKEY Eze, candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has been declared the winner of the senatorial election held in Enugu North Senatorial zone on Saturday.
Ezea defeated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Also, Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River State, lost on Saturday’s election for the National Assembly.
Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the current senator who represents the state’s Northern Senatorial District in the National Assembly, won reelection.
The result of the election in Enugu State was announced by the returning officer, Prof. Chukwuemeka Ubaka, early Monday morning.
He said Ezea polled 104, 492 votes while Ugwuanyi of the PDP garnered 46, 948 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Eze Simon came third with 6,816 votes.
On his part, Governor Ben Ayade of the APC received 56,595 votes in the election, losing to Senator Jarigbe of the PDP who received 76,145 votes.
Senator Jarigbe was declared the winner of the election early on Monday, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), represented by the returning officer Dr. Emmanuel Emanghe, congratulated all parties for their orderly conduct.
Emanghe also commended law enforcement officials for providing the necessary security assistance, which typically resulted in successful and reliable elections.
