AN escaped hyena from the Jos Wildlife Park in Plateau State has been found alive and safely returned to its enclosure.
Disclosing this development earlier today was Chuwang Pwajok via a statement on behalf of the management of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation (PSTC). He said the animal was recovered after an intensive search, tranquillized and captured.
“The Management of Plateau State Tourism Corporation would like to inform the general public that after relentless search and rescue efforts, the missing hyena has finally been found, tranquillized, captured, and safely returned to its enclosure,” the statement read.
The management also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation during the search efforts. Their calmness and assistance were crucial in the successful recovery of the hyena.
The fugitive predator escaped from its confinement at the Jos Wildlife Park within the Dong Community in Jos North Local Government Area on Sunday. The escape had led to panic among residents of Dong and nearby communities over the past two days.
PSTC, had on Monday announced the disappearance of the animal. This was contained in a statement issued by the corporation on Monday, 8 July 2024, in Jos after the animal was discovered missing.
The Jos Wildlife Park is known as one of Plateau’s topmost tourist attractions and a place in Nigeria where nature has been conserved.
The park’s management made the announcement as a cautionary measure to safeguard the public and help in apprehending the animal.
“The hyena is currently being tracked by our dedicated team of game guards and park rangers with the assistance of drone technology,” the statement read.
“We assure the public that we are taking all necessary measures to locate the escaped animal and ensure its safe return to its enclosure soonest.
“We kindly request the public to remain calm and avoid any approach to the hyena if sighted and you can kindly notify the park authorities immediately on 09026927620 & 09131000945.
“We thank you for your cooperation and promise to update the public as soon as the situation is resolved.”
