EDO State deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has shed more light on his strategic and calculated approach to his governorship ambition despite the no-love relationship between him and his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In an interview with TVC, Shaibu stressed the importance of Governor Obaseki’s support in his bid to succeed him in office. He explained that his composure and refusal to react adversely to the attacks against him and the incident where Governor Obaseki snubbed his greeting during a Church service were due to this need for support. He stated that even if Governor Obaseki were to slap him in public, he would not retaliate or attack the governor in any way.
According to the former student union activist: “So my strategy is that If Obaseki slaps me in public as he did in Church where he refused my greeting, no problem. I won’t be angry; I will move on. So my strategy was just there and people actually misunderstood that strategy, some even thought I had given up and I would not contest the election until I declared”.
