ALIOU Cisse has been appointed the new head coach of the Libyan national football team.
The deal will keep the Senegalese-born gaffer with The Mediterranean Knights until 2027.
The coach parted company with the Teranga Lions last year after spending nine years with the 2022 AFCON champions.
He coached the team to their first continental title at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon after reaching the final in 2019 in Egypt but lost to Algeria.
Among the objectives that the Senegalese coach will have to meet in his new role, he will need to secure an AFCON 2027 qualification for the Libyan national team to keep his job.
Aliou Cissé born some 49 years ago is best known for captaining the Senegal team which reached the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final and for being the first Senegal manager to win the tournament in 2022 after reaching the final in 2019.
Having begun his career in France, he later played for English clubs Birmingham City and Portsmouth. Cissé was a defensive midfielder who also, on occasion, played at centre-back.
