OPERATIVES of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a father who was accused of killing his 8-year-old biological son.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on 5 August 2024, at about 5:30 p.m. in the Epe area of the state.
The father, while allegedly punishing the deceased for misplacing his sewing thread, poured petrol on his face. This severe act led to the boy losing consciousness.
The child’s elder sister attempted to help by giving him palm oil to drink, but the boy began vomiting and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he was brought in dead.
SP Hundeyin also said that the boy’s corpse has been deposited at a General Hospital mortuary in Lagos for preservation and an autopsy.
“The boy’s father poured petrol on his face while punishing him for misplacing his sewing thread,” said SP Hundeyin. He detailed the subsequent events, noting that the child was given palm oil to drink by his elder sister and was later rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, the boy was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
“Upon receiving the complaint, the DPO led detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. The boy’s body was then evacuated to the General Hospital mortuary in Lagos for preservation and autopsy,” he added.
SP Hundeyin stated that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti Yaba for further investigation.
