The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has banned the use of foreign models and voice-over artists in the Nigerian advertising medium/media space with effect from 1st October 2022.
ARCON, in a statement by its Director-General, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo said its decision is in line with the federal government’s policy of developing local content, inclusive economic growth and the need to take necessary steps and actions aimed at growing the Nigerian advertising industry.
With this development, which ARCON says is in tandem with ARCON Act 23 of 2022, all advertisements, advertising and communications materials are to make use of only Nigerian models and voice-over artists.
“Ongoing campaigns are allowed to run out their terms, however subsequent applications for revalidation for continued exposure of such materials will not be granted by the Advertising Standard Panel (ASP).
“Advertisers, advertising agencies, media houses, advertising community are hereby enjoined to take note”, the release dated 22nd August 2022 read.
