A member of a five-man armed robbery gang yesterday Saturday, 21st May 2022, met his waterloo as a mob attacked and lynched him in Charanchi Town on the Katsina–Kano Highway.
The deceased, alongside four others, had stormed a farm in Kirkini Village in the Kankia Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State and, at gunpoint, attacked and dispossessed one Alhaji Usman Abdulmumini (52) of his blue coloured Honda car (Discussion Continues), marked CRC 135 KA, valued at Two Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,600,000:00) only.
The victim, according to the Katsina State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Gambo Isah, in a press statement was on his farm to supervise workers when the daredevil armed robbers struck.
At about noon, policemen at the Charanchi
Division received a distress call, reporting the incident.
“On receipt of the report, the DPO led a team of his officers and barricaded the robbers’ exit route at Charanchi Town, on the Katsina–Kano Highway.
“The police team successfully intercepted the stolen vehicle, driven by one of the robbers, who tried to beat the mounted checkpoint by reversing, in a bid to make a detour and escape.
“Before he could make good his manoeuvring attempt, some members of the community had caught up with him, and in the ensuing mob attack on him, he dropped dead.
“In the course of searching the car, one Makarov Pistol with five rounds of 0.8mm ammunition was recovered.
“The Command is making efforts with a view to arresting other members of the syndicate that escaped in their operational vehicle”, the PPRO stated, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
