THE Kebbi State government says it has discovered that unscrupulous individuals with ulterior motives are using criminal means to fleece and defraud members of the public by exploiting the Kaura Cares disbursement of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) each to Sixty-Five Thousand (65,000) people across the state.
According to Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, Commissioner of Information and Culture in the state, Information available to the government reveals that these fraudsters have, in their nefarious and corrupt intent, convinced some individuals to part with their hard-earned money under the guise of assisting them to access the Kaura Cares cash disbursement program.
“Their modus operandi is to deceive unsuspecting members of the public into believing they can facilitate the disbursement in exchange for a fee. Unfortunately, some individuals have fallen victim to this scam and have been defrauded without receiving the promised funds.”
Mallam Birnin Kebbi, via a press statement, further stated that the rate at which unsuspecting individuals have fallen and are continuing to fall victim to this fraud suggests that this is an organised heist intended to defraud as many people as possible.
“The Kebbi State government, concerned by the antics of these criminals will like to issue a stern warning to these elements to cease this criminal activity immediately or face the full force of the law. Anyone found to be involved in this scam, whether a government employee or otherwise, will be prosecuted and held accountable.
“Orders have already been issued to law enforcement agencies to conduct a full-scale investigation into this matter, apprehend the culprits, and take necessary measures to bring them to justice.
“For clarity, the Kaura Cares programme, which has received widespread support and admiration from the people of Kebbi State, was designed to cushion the effects of current economic hardships resulting from federal government economic reform programmes.
“Like other interventions launched by the Dr Nasir Idris administration over the past 15 months, which have greatly benefited the people of Kebbi State, the government assures the public of continued support to make life more meaningful for them.
“All policies of the current administration, from massive infrastructure investments to pro-people programmes targeting vulnerable members of the public, aim to ensure good governance, economic upgrade, and capacity building to empower people to earn a decent and dignified living”, Mallam Birnin Kebbi said in the statement.
While thanking the good people of Kebbi State for their unalloyed and generous support to the Dr Nasir Idris’s administration which, according to him, they massively voted into office, the commissioner said it is imperative to call on them to continue in their valuable and unwavering support so that ‘the remarkable progress so far achieved and for which the generality of our people are so proud of, will continue into the years ahead.”
