GHANA has won the hosting right for the next edition of the African Seniors Athletics Championships in 2026.
Buoyed by its recent successful hosting of the 13th African Games and the CAA Region 2 championship, the West African country was given the nod after the vote of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Council voted in Douala, Cameroon.
Ghana defeated Botswana by 12 votes to 3 to get the right to host Africa’s premium athletics competition.
Ghana is the fourth West African country to secure the hosting right of Africa’s biggest athletics gathering after Senegal hosted the maiden edition in 1979 and 1998, Nigeria on two occasions in 1989 and 2018 while Benin Republic staged the championships in 2012.
The University of Ghana Sports Complex in Legon, Accra is expected to be the venue for the championships.
