KEBBI State governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has signed thirteen (13) bills into law.
Presenting the bills for the governor’s assent at the Government House Birnin Kebbi Friday, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Usman Muhammad Ankwe commended the governor for upholding the principles of justice and fairness in steering the affairs of the state.
Rt Hon Ankwe explained that the bills signed into law encompassed a wide range of issues of high importance necessary for the development of the state and the wellbeing of the populace.
The Speaker added that the bills also addressed the needs and aspirations of the people as well as providing a legal framework for the implementation of policies and programmes of the government.
The Speaker informed the governor that the Assembly also reappraised the concerns and suggestions of various stakeholders before ratifying the bills aimed at achieving the target objective.
Speaking after initialling his signature on the bills, Governor Nasir Idris, thanked the Speaker and other members of the legislature for performing a very wonderful job and urged them to keep it up.
He acknowledged the harmonious working relationship between the Legislature and the Executive which he described as excellent.
He narrated to them the commendation of the Vice President who called him by his name, Kaura and remarked, you are number two to sign the 2024 budget into law among states in the country.
Comrade Nasir Idris attributed such a feat to the support of the state Assembly saying that the Kebbi State House Assembly is the people’s Assembly.
He acknowledged that all bills sent to the Assembly have been given quick passage which he said has reduced the burden on him.
“As a true labour leader, I believe in the rule of law, dialogue and consultations. I will implement the laws judiciously in accordance with the dictates contained in the document ‘, he averred.
He sought the support of the Kebbi House of Assembly to work tirelessly on areas of revenue generation to complement federation allocation to the state to enable the government to complete ongoing projects and embark on new ones.
The bills ratified by the Kebbi State House of Assembly and signed by Governor Idris include the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency Law, the Kebbi State Justice Sector Reform Law, the Kebbi State Senior Citizens Centre (Establishment Act 2023), the Kebbi State Investment Promotion Agency Law and the Kebbi State Teaching Hospital Bill (Establishment Act 2023).
Others are the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero Act, the Kebbi State Law Reform Commission Act, the Kebbi State Administration and Collection of Revenue due to State Government and Local Government Council and Relevant Administrative Structure Act and the Kebbi State Social Investment Programmes Agency Act
The rest are the Kebbi State Polytechnic Act, the Kebbi State College of Advanced Legal Studies Yauri Act, the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics Establishment Act as well as the Kebbi State Hisbah Board Act
