ABIA State governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has sacked all political appointees in the state. Those affected by the purge include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers and Technical Officers.
A statement by Secretary to Abia State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem quotes the governor as directing the state Accountant-General to ensure immediate payment of March 2023 stipends to all the appointees
“The governor thanked them for their contributions and services to the state and wish them well in their future endeavours”, the statement pointed out.
Although no reason was adduced for the action, Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the action may not be unconnected with political development in the state. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state recently lost the governorship election to the rival Labour Party. Also, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu lost his bid to represent Abia South Senatorial District.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Enyinnaya Abaribe the winner of the senatorial election.
