A former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Onje Gye-wado, was early Friday morning kidnapped by daredevil gunmen.
Onje Gye-wado, who served during the Abdullahi Adamu administration, the current National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was abducted in the early hours of Friday when the assailants invaded Gwagi village in Wamba Local Government Area of the state.
The Nasarawa State Police Public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the development.
He said the Commissioner of Police in the state CP Maiyaki Baba has mobilised and deployed “reinforcements comprising Police tactical teams, military, vigilante, and local hunters” to rescue the victim alive.
According to the PPRO, the armed men invaded the residence of the victim at about 12:30 am and shot sporadically before whisking him to an unknown destination.
“Information received by the police command indicated that on Friday, 7th April at about 12:30 a.m., gunmen invaded Gwagi village in Wamba LGA, broke into the residence of the former deputy governor and abducted him to an unknown destination,” added the police statement.
The police revealed that “upon receipt of the information, police operatives attached to Wamba division swiftly moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had fled with the victim before their arrival.”
The statement also mentioned that the police commissioner had further mobilised reinforcement comprising police tactical teams, the military, vigilance groups and local hunters to complement the ongoing search to rescue the hostage hale and hearty.
