A Lagos Hajj pilgrim, Idris Oloshogbo, has passed away in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, at the age of 68.
His death was confirmed by medical experts after he returned from performing Tawaf (circumambulation) of the Holy Kaaba.
The tragic news was announced by the Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Saheed Onipede, through a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Taofeek Lawal, on Wednesday.
Onipede revealed that Oloshogbo died while eating his evening meal after the Maghrib prayer. Although the exact cause of death is yet to be determined, it is suspected that high blood pressure and physical exertion from Tawaf may have contributed to his demise.
Expressing condolences to the deceased’s family and friends, Onipede prayed for Allah to forgive Oloshogbo’s shortcomings and grant him Aljanat Fridauos. He also hoped that Oloshogbo would receive the rewards of Hajj, given his intention to complete the pilgrimage.
Onipede urged other pilgrims to take care of their health and avoid overexertion as they prepare for the remaining Hajj rites. “The deceased has been buried in Makkah in accordance with the principles laid down by Saudi Arabian authorities,” Onipede stated.
The Lagos State government extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Idris Oloshogbo during this difficult time.
