A young man, Dada Adesonye, has reportedly committed suicide by hanging in the Afami area of Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State.
Dada’s lifeless body was found hanging on a tree by an employee at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese, Afami Road. The said employee reported the incident at Dangote Police Post at about 8:27 am today.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, on investigation, no sign of violence was observed on the victim’s body, and the corpse has been released to the family for burial.
She said, “On 18 October 2024, at approximately 08:27 am, the Divisional Police Officer reported a suspected suicide incident. An Assistant at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese informed the Dangote Police Post that he discovered a lifeless body around 8:10 am.
“Upon investigation, photographs were taken, revealing no signs of violence on the body. Personal items found in the deceased’s pockets included a payment card, a key holder, an earbud, and N2,000.”

Odutola noted that further information would be made available to the public and urged families to monitor their loved ones amid rising youth suicides.
Meanwhile, a source says Dada’s action may not be unconnected with depression occasioned by the pervasive economic hardship. “He lost hope and concluded there was no reason to continue to struggle to eke out a living. It’s unfortunate”, the source stated.
