THE pan-Nigerian socio-political group, Obidient Movement, has said that the gruesome murder of Hon Justice Azuka, a member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly underscores the need for a state of emergency in the security architecture of the country.
The Movement, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa, asked rhetorically “If people are not safe to carry out their human and constitutional rights, how can the society become a better place?”
The security of lives and properties, the Movement emphasized, are the primary responsibilities of the government to the people.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the Movement had on Friday 27th December 2024 issued a statement beckoning on the security agencies to facilitate his unconditional release from the kidnappers’ den.
Hon Azuka, according to the Movement, the only son of his parents, was on Christmas Eve last year abducted along Ugwunaobankpa Road inland Town, Onitsha, Anambra State. His lifeless body was found in the wee hours of Thursday morning by security operatives beside the road at the Second Niger Bridge, 44 days after he was whisked away.
However, Obidient Movement stressed that the former lawmaker was on constitutional assignment on Christmas Eve, personally distributing aid and palliatives to his constituents for the festivities when the incident occurred.
“We’re thereby calling on the Federal Government, the Anambra State Government and all Security Agencies to gravitate towards apprehending the culprits and everyone involved in this heinous act using the apprehended suspects as a link and be brought to justice, also increase security surveillance in the state to avoid any further reoccurrence of such inhumane act.
“We extend our fellowship to the family at this time, the mother, wife, children and the entire Onitsha community for the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. He was a great and loving man; may his soul rest in peace.
“With so much grief in our hearts, we are calling on the security architecture to beef up security in the state, neutralizing kidnappers den, and the swift expulsion of criminals from the state.
“Let us join hands together as we build a Nigeria that is safe for all, with the right people in Government and the right approach to fundamental security issues, this is POssible.”
Meanwhile, Eighteen-Eleven Media reliably gathered that the kidnappers that abducted and killed Hon. Azuka collected 100 million from his account before killing him on 26th December 2024. He was reportedly shot twice in the head. A nurse and a native doctor alongside some of the kidnappers have been reportedly arrested. The was said to have played a role in the withdrawal of funds from the deceased account
