STEVEN GERRARD continued his unbeaten start as Al-Ettifaq manager with a 2-0 away victory over Al-Hazm on Friday evening.
The Englishman secured a season-opening Saudi Pro League win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in his first top-flight clash and followed it up with another dominant performance.
Goals on either side of half-time saw Al-Ettifaq clinch three points to move level with league leaders Al-Ahli – who hold the top spot on goal difference.
Robin Quaison opened the scoring in the 17th minute with Brazilian winger Vitinho providing the assist for the opening strike.
The visitors then doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half with the assister turning goalscorer to put the game out of reach.
However, there was no involvement for Jordan Henderson as the former Liverpool midfielder was left out of the club’s matchday squad.
The England international missed Friday’s game through illness with the club expecting him to be back fit for selection by the weekend.
Henderson is currently undergoing a period of rest to be available for selection as Gerrard looks to guide his team to the top of the league standings.
Al-Ettifaq are next in action without a win in their opening two games of the new season.
