VETERAN Nollywood actor-turned-politician, Hilda Dokubo is now to pilot the affairs of the Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State following her appointment as the chairman of the steering committee for the state.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mammod Yakubu, signed by LP National Chairman, Barrister Jullus Abure named other members of the committee including Pastor Philip Nyechl Loveday as Secretary and Mr.Gogo Wellington as the Publicity Secretary.
According to the letter, the appointment is for one month.
“Consequently, this letter supersedes any other letter relating disconnected there to”.
Eighteen-Eleven Media recalls that the national executive committee of the party on Tuesday announced the dissolution of the executive council of the Rivers State chapter over allegations of anti-party activities and corruption in the management of the party’s funds.
Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson of the LP campaign, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Rivers executive council has been dissolved with immediate effect on the order of Julius Abure, LP National Chairman.
Eighteen-Eleven Media had recalled that the state chapter of the party, only a few hours earlier, endorsed the candidate of the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sim Fubara, for governor.
The state Chairman of the Labour Party, Deinye Pepple, had stated at a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said Fubara’s senatorial district had yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state.
He stated, “Voting a riverine candidate in the person of Simimialayi Fubara from the South East Senatorial District of the state during the upcoming governorship poll ensures that the Labour Party and her members are defenders and ambassadors of the values that have set her Obidient movement apart from all other parties.”
