How Alaafin’s Death Scuttles Gbajabiamila’s Conferment As ‘Aare Baasofin’

As part of the celebration of his 60th birthday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila was billed to be conferred with the title of Aare Baasofin Ti Ile Yoruba (the Supreme Legislative Guide for the Yoruba Race) by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi. But that is now confined to the waste bin of history.  

Eighteen-Eleven Media gathered from a reliable source that all was set for the epic conferment slated to hold on Friday 27th May 2022t as Aso Ebi has been procured, musicians including Chief Ebenezer Obey and K1 De Ultimate have been contracted and were to perform on the day. 

An invite made available to Eighteen-Eleven Media indicates that the self-styled National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was to be the Chairman of the Occasion while His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), the Ooni of Ife was to serve as the Royal Father of the Day. 

Oba Adeyemi, the third from the Alowolodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State in South-West Nigeria.

The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler was committed to mother earth on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites. He was 83 years old and the longest-reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for more than 51 years.
