TUNJI Balogun (popularly known as Teebillz), the former husband of music star Tiwa Savage, has publicly questioned the outcomes of the personal sacrifices made during their marriage, particularly focusing on Tiwa’s career pursuits.
His comments reflect on an incident where he claims Tiwa would take romantic calls in his presence, suggesting this was a form of disrespect.
He rhetorically asks if those actions, which he implies led to the end of their marriage, have resulted in her winning a Grammy.
“One of the highest forms of disrespect any man can face is for your woman to take romantic calls in your presence.
“I had a fair piece of mine a decade back when I was involved with my ex-wife, we would be together the latest nights and one small boy would call, she would quickly jump off the bed and run straight to the bathroom, she would spend hours there on the phone talking and laughing out loud.
“I am a cool and understanding guy so I still kept my cool because the media sees me as that cool and understanding husband to the queen of Afrobeats.
“If I had tried to say something, the media would have tagged me as a misunderstood husband who doesn’t want the career of the Afrobeats Queen to progress.
“Well, it’s been over a decade since I put an end to it as we have gone separate ways, I am still wondering how far with all the calls that made you put your marriage on the line? Have you brought home a Grammy?”
Teebillz’s comments also come in the context of their much-publicised marriage issues, where he has previously accused Tiwa of infidelity and other personal grievances.
His recent statements might be seen as part of ongoing public dialogue or disputes between them, especially highlighted by their interactions on social media and through various public statements over the years.
The media and public often scrutinise the personal lives of celebrities, and in this case, Teebillz’s portrayal of himself as the “cool and understanding husband” contrasts with his public expressions of frustration. This narrative has been part of the couple’s public image, particularly around the time of their separation and subsequent public spats, influencing how their relationship and professional lives are perceived.
While Tiwa Savage has not won a Grammy, she continues to be a prominent figure in Afrobeats, recognised both nationally and internationally for her contributions to music.
She has received nominations and has achieved considerable success in the music industry including winning other prestigious awards like the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act in 2018.
Teebillz’s question might reflect personal frustrations but also underscores the high expectations and pressures placed on artists in terms of their personal sacrifices for career achievements.
