CHIEF of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja has discountenanced reports of his resignation from service.
Speaking through the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Chief described the report as “fake news”.
General Nwachukwu simply said: “It is fake news; please disregard it”.
An online news platform had reported the alleged resignation citing a purported attempt on the life of the Army Chief. It claimed that the resignation letter was submitted about 24 hours after the failed assassination bid.
General Lagbaja was appointed on 19 June 2023, by President Tinubu to succeed Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.
Lagbaja is the 23rd Chief of Army Staff.
