THE recently appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority. Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke has claimed that since rejoining the cabinet of Sir Siminalayi Fubara on the 26th of January, 2024, he had neither been assigned a portfolio nor paid a kobo as salary or allowance by the state government.
Engr Woke was one of the commissioners who resigned their appointment late last year in the wake of the imbroglio between the governor and his political godfather, Nyesom Wike who is presently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
However, following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the political officeholders who quit their positions were ordered re-instated.
He was equally reinstated.
In his resignation letter addressed to the governor of the state dated 9th April 2024 (sic), the former Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, later Chief of Staff to then Rivers State governor, Mr Wike, said: “Your Excellency, recall that pursuant to the Presidential Peace Proclamation, you re-nominated me as a Commissioner and the state House of Assembly confirmed me as Commissioner-Designate
“Consequently, the Oath of Office and Allegiance was administered on me by Your Excellency on the 26th of January, 2024. However, I was not assigned any portfolio and no salary or allowance was paid to me.”
Meanwhile, President Tinubu announced his appointment as the boss of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.
A statement signed by Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday, said the President expects the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to discharge his duties with integrity and in conformity with the highest standards of transparency while working at harnessing and developing the water resource potential of the area, as well as ensuring that the Authority is a channel for holistic and integrated industrial, agricultural, and community development.
