A former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has revealed one of the most shocking things that happened pre-Nigeria-Ghana return leg playoff ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup played in Abuja.
In a conversation with Oma Sports TV the former Manchester United forward, stated that there are serious contentious matters going on behind the scenes with the national team squad.
“There is so much going on in the Super Eagles. I am a guy who does not talk much, and I don’t create problems. I’m on my lane, and that’s why I’m in Saudi Arabia; I do my thing and live my life. I don’t want issues.” he said.
He further said that the then coach, Austin Eguavoen couldn’t even tell him directly why there was a change of formation despite practicing on a singular one for two days.
“They told me two hours before the game that I was not going to start. We were having lunch, and they had to call me out saying that we want to do this and that. Even the coach did not call me.” he continued.
“I said no problem. Senior man, no problem, he is the coach, my prayer is that whatever the formation is, we win the game. God just said we were not going to the World Cup,” he added.
The Super Eagles will go on to lose to Ghana on goal aggregate, although the match ended 1-1. The first leg played in Ghana had ended goalless.
