ALHAJI Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’) presidential candidate, has committed to continuing his presidential ambition as long as he remains in good health.
Alhaji Atiku made this statement during an interview on the Hausa service of Voice of America in Abuja. When asked if he plans to run again, Atiku replied, “Of course, I will keep contesting as long as I am alive and healthy. even former US president Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.”
He also noted that given the current state of the PDP, winning the election will require more than individual effort; strong support and collaboration with other parties are essential.
The former vice president, who will be 81 by the next presidential election in 2027, has attempted to secure the presidency six times, including runs in 2007, 2019, and 2023. He takes comfort in the fact that Abraham Lincoln did not win the presidency on his first attempt.
Regarding the PDP’s internal issues, Atiku emphasized the need for unity and alliances with other political groups to have a chance at winning the 2027 election.
There have been rumours about Atiku and other politicians planning to form a coalition with other parties. Alhaji Atiku recently met with Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate from the Labour
Alhaji Atiku assured that there would be no issues between him and Mr Obi, stating, “I want to assure anyone concerned that there will be no misunderstandings between us. we will support whoever is chosen to represent us in the upcoming elections.”
