IT was a gathering filled with nostalgia on Saturday 7th, October 2023 as the 1993 Old Boys Association of Community Grammar School, Mokola, Ibadan converged to celebrate 30 years of their graduation from the school.
The celebration, planned to simply mingle and interact inadvertently turned out an avenue for the old boys to give back to their Alma mater.
The occasion of the 30th anniversary of the graduation of the 93 set was held at the school premises.
The old boys, who are now experts and professionals in various fields of life, took on current students to factors that will help in choosing a career.
The students were enjoined to be innovative, and focused, keep working towards set goals and to attain education irrespective of their social status, their gender or their economic backgrounds.
In his speech, the President of 93 set of the Old Boys, Mr. Dare Ayetan admonished alumni associations not to desert their old schools which, he insists, is the bedrock of their achievement in life.
He further expressed gratitude to God for making the reunion a reality after 30 years even as he pledged the determination of the set to continue to contribute its quotas towards the development of the school
Also speaking, the current school principal, Alhaja Suwebat Bello, acknowledged the hard work of the Old Boys Association and encouraged the executive members to continue in the development of the school.
Alhaja Suwebat also urged the alumni associations of various sets to be actively involved in the development agenda of their Alma Mater.
The son of the first Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman, Mr Yusuf Adetunji Odunayo, stressed the importance of the role of secondary school education In the development of a nation.
He further said the broad goal of secondary education is to prepare the individual for useful living within the society as well as for higher education.
Highlights of the event include the handing over of a new power-generating set to supply electricity to the multi-purpose resource centre located within the school premises to the Principal who was represented by the Vice Principal, Mr. Ademola Ogundele, and special awards to former teachers, dance and group photographs.
Community Grammar School, Mokola Ibadan was founded in 1983, with the motto. Education for Self-Reliance.
