GOVERNOR Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has sworn in the 21 newly elected chairmen of local government councils following their election on the 31st of August, 2024.
The ceremony took place earlier today at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Birnin Kebbi, attended by a crowd of political supporters from all 21 local government areas of the state.The event came at a time when the state House of Assembly passed into law, the Local Government Amendment Bill, 2024, which increased the tenure of local government councils from two years to three years.
In his remarks, Governor Idris described the occasion as history-making, expressing happiness that all the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates won in the 21 local government areas.
“This is clear evidence that the APC is the party that the people of Kebbi want,” he stated.
The governor enumerated developmental projects across Kebbi State, attributing the party’s success to the feat. “If goodwill and a solid track record matter, I am confident that the APC will win all future elections,” he emphasized.
Governor Idris urged the newly elected local government chairmen to operate an open and collective leadership by involving their vice chairmen and councillors in the running of the councils to promote good governance.
He also advised them to view their electoral victories as divinely ordained and to administer justice to all citizens.
The governor told them to collaborate harmoniously with members of the state House of Assembly and other stakeholders to foster development in their communities.After the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Idris presented new operational Hilux vehicles to the elected chairmen and instructed them to use the vehicles with care.
Kebbi State Chief Judge, Justice Umar Abubakar, administered the oath of office to the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman. Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Nayaya Ambursa, on behalf of other sworn-in chairmen, assured the governor that they would adhere to the rules and regulations governing local government administration.
The new local Government Chairmen sworn in and elected on the platform of the APC include Hon Abubakar Jada for Aliero LGA, Hon Aliyu Musa for Argungu LGA, Zaiyanu Shehu Bunza for Bunza LGA, Hon Muhammad Dahiru Ambursa for Birnin Kebbi LGA, Hon Aliyu Sambo Zaga for Bagudo LGA, Hon Shehu Umar Jega for Jega LG and Hon. Sani Aliyu for Arewa LGA.
Others include Atiku Ahmad Mandiya for Gwandu LGA, Adamu Aliyu Liba for Maiyama LGA, Dr Mansur Isa for Dandi LGA, Hon Sirajo Usman Koko for Koko Besse LGA, Hon Muhammad Lawal for Suru LGA, Hon Yahaya Bala Kuka for Kalgo LGA and Hussaini Aliyu Bena for Danko Wasagu LGA.
Oath of office was also administered on Hon Muhammad Sarkin Fawa for Fakai LG, Hon Abubakar Shuaibu for Yauri LGA, Hon Abdullahi Abdullahi M/U for Shanga LGA, Muhammad Dauda Sakaba for Sakaba LGA, Hon Bala Isa Isgogo for Zuru LGA and Hon Maniru Abubakar for Ngaski LGA.
