FORMER African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke said he was happy with his experience in Zambia following his departure from Zanaco FC on Monday.
The Zambian club terminated the contracts of the ex-Super Eagles winger, his consultant his Nigerian assistant Emeka Amadi as well as the Head coach, Kelvin Kaindu and appointed Wilson Nyirenda, as the Interim coach of Zanaco till the end of the season.
The club board has been on a massive cost-cutting exercise which has seen them fail to strengthen the squad with just one player coming in since the arrival of Amuneke and players’ salaries cut without prior notice.
The action of the management of the club may have affected the morale of the squad and coupled with the suspension of key players Zanaco slipped down the table and struggled to compete in the league.
“Every journey eventually comes to an end but I’m happy with the experience in Zambia,”
Amuneke further said: “The fans could see what we were trying to do with the team and supported our project.
“The players improved different aspects of their game.
“Of course, the Zambian league is quite competitive but with the right backing, we could have done a lot more for the team.
“But the board wants to move in a different direction and I wish them all the best with the remaining games of the season,” he noted.
Amuneke joined Zanaco in September 2022 and finished well in the first stanza of the league but a run of poor results in the second stanza led to him leaving the club by mutual consent.
