NATIONAL Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has said that he was ready to dialogue with aggrieved individuals and groups in the party in efforts to resolve the lingering internal crisis which has plagued the party after the 2023 general election.
Abure stated this in Lagos while welcoming People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defectors to the LP in Ajegunle.
At the event, he also commissioned an ultra-modern party secretariat donated by a new entrant in Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Francis Chima, popularly known as “ OmoBarca”, who officially decamped from PDP to LP along with his supporters.
OmoBarca was the PDP’s candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2023 election in the constituency.
Speaking further, Abure said that he and the National Working Committee of the party have been targeted and misrepresented, noting that due to strategies which have made the party enjoy some level of success and transformation since he assumed the position of the national chairman, many people thought he had overstayed in office.
He said aggrieved members in Lagos State and other parts of the country should forget the past, embrace peace, and come together to build a united party ahead of the 2027 general election.
“We would put our house in order, we would dialogue with all aggrieved individuals in Lagos and across the country. We would talk to people and put the LP back, and search for those men and women who can provide good governance so that the country can be one.”
Abure also spoke on the need to end criminality in the nation’s polity, saying that the LP has all the qualities and what it takes to put Nigeria on economic recovery in all facets of life.
The new members were officially welcomed into the LP with the presentation of the party flag by Abure, alongside other National Working Committee of the party, the Lagos State chairman, Dayo Ekong, LP’s governorship candidate in 2023 general elections, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and other state executive members.
OmoBarca was also declared the official Labour Party candidate for the Federal House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections in the constituency.
Speaking, OmoBarca expressed his commitment to delivering Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituency to the LP. “I want to win and come 2027, Labour will be declared winners in all elections,” he stated.
