FANS of Black Stars of Ghan yesterday expressed their frustration by throwing bottles onto the pitch following the team’s 0-1 defeat to Angola in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The home crowd was left fuming after a late goal in the 93rd minute from Angola’s Milson shattered Ghana’s long-standing unbeaten record in Kumasi.
The poor state of the pitch only worsened matters, as fans had already voiced concerns about its impact on the players’ performances.
Despite dominating possession, Ghana struggled to create clear chances, with Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus both seeing efforts blocked.
Angola capitalised on a defensive mistake by Abdul Mumin to secure the win, sparking anger among the disappointed fans. The loss marked Ghana’s first defeat in Kumasi since 2000, a bitter blow as the Black Stars’ 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign got off to a poor start.
The Black Stars will now shift their focus to their upcoming match against Niger on Monday 9 September, in Berkane, as Coach Otto Addo and his team aim to recover from the disappointing home defeat.
