CAPTAIN of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Ahmed Musa is deeply concerned about the potential consequences of Nigeria failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, calling it a “total disaster” for Nigerian football.
He said missing the tournament would not only waste a generation of talented players but also erode the confidence of future generations.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently occupying the fifth place in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with three points.
Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic are on seven points each while Lesotho is on five points. Zimbabwe are first from the rear with just two points.
“The Super Eagles are in a very difficult situation right now, but we believe in ourselves that we can still scale through,” the Kano Pillars forward said.
He stated that the upcoming match against Rwanda is a critical turning point, stating, “This important game is also important to Rwanda.
“If we can get the three points from that match, it’s going to be a turning point for us,” he added.
Musa emphasized that the task of qualifying for the World Cup goes beyond the Super Eagles themselves.
He called for a united front, urging every Nigerian to rally behind the team and provide their support
“It is not just a job for the Super Eagles alone. Every Nigerian must be involved because we need their support.”
