THE Kano State Police Command has described as fake news reports of an 18-seater bus conveying Igbo individuals being set ablaze in the state, as well as the false claim of an Igbo man being killed in a reprisal attack.
The Command says the intendment of purveyors of the fake news and misinformation is to instigate violence and breakdown of law and order.
The Command, in a release endorsed by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, maintained that though these malicious reports were debunked by community stakeholders, they have caused unnecessary apprehension amongst the people.
The Command assures the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of life and property. “We urge everyone to go about their lawful activities without fear.
“We appreciate the support and cooperation of the Kano State government, and law-abiding people of Kano State, which has been instrumental in maintaining peace and order. We commend various community leaders and stakeholders for their prompt action in debunking the fake news reports.”
The Command however warns against the peddling of fake news, hate statements, and inciting contents which it says could cause harm and destabilise the peace.
“We urge everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station or through the following contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
“Together, we will continue to maintain and improve the peace and security of Kano State”.
