NIGERIA’S Junior Tigress are through to the final of the 2024 FIBA U-18 Women’s Afrobasket Championship, taking place in Pretoria, South Africa.
The J’Tigress beat favourite Uganda in a gruelling semifinal game on Friday 71-67 to land in the final.
The ladies who could be said to have followed in the footsteps of the senior team had sweet revenge on Uganda, who had earlier beaten them in the competition. Former silver medalists Nigeria now turn their focus on defending champions Mali for the final. Mali have also won the Championship eight (8) times.
Holders Mali proved that they’re the team to beat at the FIBA U-18 Women’s AfroBasket, easily seeing off Cameroon to storm the final.
Mali won the one-sided match 103-45.
Both Nigeria and Mali have qualified for the 2025 FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, scheduled to be held in the Czech Republic, after reaching the continental final as the two automatic tickets from Africa from the continent.
