CHELSEA defender Wesley Fofana is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines, after suffering an injury.
The 22-year-old France centre-back has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and could miss the entirety of the 2023/2024 campaign after undergoing surgery to fix the problem.
The former Leicester City man did not travel on the Blues’ pre-season tour to the United States as a result and now the results of a scan have revealed the extent of his latest injury blow.
Fofana has been extremely unfortunate with injuries in his relatively short career so far. He broke his leg while at Leicester during a pre-season friendly against Villarreal in 2021, which ruled him out for the majority of that campaign.
He made a return in March 2022 before sealing an £80 million move to Chelsea a few months later. However, in his first season at Stamford Bridge, Fofana remained plagued by injury problems.
He picked up a knee injury that ruled him out for over two months and then four days after returning to training, he suffered a recurrence which saw him miss another couple of months. Now he faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
