A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has cautioned the sacked Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, against heading to the Supreme Court to contest the nullification of his election by the Court of Appeal.
Kwankwaso urged Yusuf to accept defeat and wait till 2027 to contest for the governorship election in Kano State.
Recall that the Court of Appeal had upheld the sack of Yusuf as pronounced by the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal while declaring the APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, the winner of the election.
Reacting, Kwankwaso said the evidence against Yusuf at the Court of Appeal was overwhelming, hence he should go and rest.
Addressing journalists in Kano, he said: “It would be another waste of time and resources for him to drag the case to the Supreme Court, going by the available evidence that nailed him at both the Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. Hence, the need for him to go and rest until 2027.”
He also commended Gawuna, stressing that his victory was a triumph of democracy and the rule of law.
“Governor Yusuf should have read the handwriting on the wall and analyzed the various pieces of evidence used by the Tribunal to sack him, adding that those pieces of evidence are convincing, and it would be very difficult for the court to neglect while delivering judgment.
“As a brother, I am using this medium to advise him to shelve any move to drag his defeat to the Supreme Court but should just know that this is not the time for him to be the governor of the state,” he said.
