Assalamu Alaikum,
I write this letter as a concerned son of Kano, deeply committed to our culture and the legacy of our traditional institutions.
I express my utmost disappointment and surprise at the silence of our esteemed traditional rulers regarding the ongoing attempts to dismantle the Kano Emirate.
The Kano Emirate, which stands as the pillar of our history and cultural identity, is under threat of destruction, yet you – our revered leaders – have chosen silence! Does this mean you approve of what is happening, or have you decided to watch as our historic institution collapses without making any effort to intervene?
Traditional rulers are supposed to be the custodians of the people’s heritage and dignity. If you truly care about our traditions and the unity of Northern Nigeria, why have you not spoken out? Are we to believe that the fate of one of the greatest emirates in our history is of no concern to you?
If silence prevails at this critical moment, history will not forget. The people of Kano are watching, and they will remember those who stood to defend their heritage and those who chose to remain silent when their voices were needed most.
Now is the time for you to rise and protect the integrity of traditional institutions before what has taken centuries to build is brought down. If the Kano Emirate is destroyed, do not assume that other emirates will be safe.
May Allah grant us wisdom and courage to defend our culture and preserve the honour of our traditional leadership.
