GOVERNOR Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of second-class emirs for Gaya, Karaye and Rano emirates.
Director-General, Media and Publicity to the governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano.
The newly appointed emirs include Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye as Emir of Karaye, who until his appointment was District Head of Rogo, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar as the Emir of Rano.
Until his appointment, Umar was the District Head of Bunkure.
The deposed emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, was reinstated as Emir of Gaya.
Unlike other deposed emirs, Abdulkadir accepted his fate and expressed willingness to work in any capacity after his deposition was announced.
The governor congratulated the newly appointed emirs and enjoined them to be the custodians of culture, peace and unity of the people in their respective emirates.
The statement said all the appointments were with immediate effect.
The Kano State House of Assembly passed the state Emirate Council Establishment Bill, on Tuesday.
The governor had assented to the Bill, leading to the creation of three second-class emirates.
Speaking after signing the bill into law at the Kano State Government House, the governor said the establishment of the emirates is a testament that the government recognizes the traditional institution.
