…Street Urchin Arrested For Stabbing Imam While Performing Ablution
THE Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly causing the death of two persons.
The incidents involved an uncertified (quack) medical doctor, and his engager, on one hand, and a notorious street urchin on the other.
The quack doctor was said to have injected a pregnant woman to death, while the street urchin stabbed an Imam with a sharp knife.

In a press statement e-signed by the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, he said “Today (3rd January), we announce two major arrests in separate and highly sensitive homicide cases that have shocked the community.”
According to him, on 12 December 2023, at about 10:30 am, one Nura Balarabe (m) reported an incestuous act between one Ukasha Muhammed and his sister, Amina Bala, both 19 years old, leading to pregnancy.
In an attempt to do away with the pregnancy, Muhammed allegedly consulted the said quack doctor, 24-year-old Chidera Ugwu, to administer injections and drugs to the said Amina, leading to her death.
Both suspects were arrested and have confessed to the crime.
Police investigation has, however, revealed that the quack doctor had allegedly been administering fatal injections to pregnant women, leading to tragic consequences, the PPRO stated, adding, “The arrest of the quack doctor signifies a significant breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the lives and well-being of all the residents in the state”.
In the case of the notorious thug, the PPRO said that on 31 December 2023, at about 7:30 pm, the 18-year-old suspect, Yusuf Haruna (aka Lagwatsani), attacked a renowned Imam, Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, 45, whom he stabbed with a sharp knife at the back while performing ablution.
The victim sustained a deep injury and was rushed to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The Imam’s offence, according to the statement, was because he had previously warned Lagwatsani and his gang to desist from smoking Indian hemp around the Mosque premises.
“The incident shook the community, and our officers have worked tirelessly to identify and capture the assailant. This arrest is a testament to our unwavering commitment to protecting the sanctity of life and bringing justice to those affected by such heinous acts”, the statement further disclosed.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has assured the public of the Command’s commitment to conducting thorough investigations into both cases, adding that, “we will work diligently to compile solid evidence, to ensure the successful prosecution of the arrested individuals. Our objective is not only to bring the perpetrators to justice but also to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate such criminal actions”.
CP Gumel expressed his appreciation to the public for their patience and trust in the Kano Police Command as, according to him, “we continue to investigate these horrific crimes. Together, we can bring justice to the victims and send a resounding message that criminal activities will not be tolerated in our great state”.
“Finally, the Commissioner of Police, while appreciating the confidence and friendship gesture being extended by the good people of Kano State to the Police Command, also thanks everyone for their commitment to prayers, understanding, encouragement, continuous support, and cooperation.
“He further urges everyone to keep reporting any suspicious movement of persons or items they come across to the nearest Police station or through any of the following emergency contacts: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926, or log in to the NPF Rescue Me Application available on Google Play Store, or through the following Online Media Platforms:
