KEBBI State governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has sworn in Hon. Adamu Aliyu Liba as the new Chairman of Maiyama Local Government Area.
The swearing-in of the new Chairman was sequel to the death of Hon. Zayyanu Muhammad Bello who passed away on Thursday following a brief illness at Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
The oath of office and allegiance was administered by Justice Hassan Kuwa at Government House, Birnin Kebbi yesterday Friday 29th December 2023 and was presided over by Governor Nasir Idris.
In a remark, Governor Nasir Idris congratulated the new Council Chairman and wished him well. He reminded Hon. Adamu Aliyu Liba that he was sworn in as the Chairman of Maiyama following the death of late Hon Zayyanu Bello and therefore the need for him to fear God in the discharge of his duty.
“Taking this position is an act of God because Hon Zayyanu Bello is now late, his remains is now history, I want you to take note of that.
“Death is not knocking on anybody’s door, when times come you have to go, one of my lecturers in the university said all of us are strangers here’.
He charged Hon. Liba to continue to run an open door policy to understand the yearnings and aspirations of his people, impact positively on their lives and do justice to all people of the local government.
“I want you to continue from where the late Chairman stopped and impact on the lives of your people. Maiyama Local Government is a stronghold of APC in the state, do justice to all ‘, he averred.
Governor Idris also assured the new Chairman of the state government’s readiness to support him in discharging his responsibilities while directing him to also carry his council and civil servants along.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafidan Kabi was among hundreds of people who attended the funeral prayer of the late Hon. Bello who died in the early hours of Thursday at Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto.
The funeral prayer which took place at the deceased’s residence in Maiyama around 2:30 pm was also attended by the Head of Service, Alhaji Sufiyanu Garba Bena, Chairmen of other local government areas, Hon. Garba Rabi’u Kamba, member representing Arewa/Dandi Federal Constituency, members of the state legislative and executive councils, special advisers, traditional rulers and religious leaders, and party officials, among others.
While condoling the deceased’s family and the good people of Maiyama Local Government Area, the Deputy Governor described the death of Late Zayyanu Muhammad as a great loss not only to the deceased’s immediate family, people of Maiyama Local Government but to the entire Kebbi State.
He prayed to Allah for the repose of the soul of the late Zayyanu Muhammad and grant his family and his constituents, the fortitude to bear the great loss.
Speaking earlier, the Sarkin Kabin Jega, Alhaji Muhammad Arzika Karaye, sympathized with the family of the deceased and urged them to take the death as a destiny from Almighty Allah.
The District Head of Maiyama, Sarkin Kudun Maiyama, Dr. Muhammad Aliyu Maiyama who led the funeral prayer prayed to Allah to grant the deceased Aljannah Firdausi, forgive his shortcomings and beseeched Allah to give his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Late Zayyanu Muhammad Bello, who died at the age of 47 after a brief illness, left behind a wife and children.
