KEBBI STATE governor, Comrade (Dr) Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu on Saturday visited the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) facility at Tal’udu, Birnin Kebbi, which was gutted by fire on Thursday night.
Governor Idris sympathised with TCN and the entire people of Kebbi State over the unfortunate fire incident which had thrown the state and its neighbouring states into darkness.
Governor Idris directed the Ministry of Water Resources as well as Advisers on Power and that of Environment to make contingency arrangements on the supply of diesel to power the state Water Board engines for the supply of water to Kebbi residents.
“We don’t want a situation where this problem will lead to the suffering of our people. We want people to enjoy the supply of potable water to avoid outbreaks of diseases,” he noted.
Idris also advocated for the establishment of a committee of enquiry to ascertain the main cause of the fire incident, adding that investigation became necessary with a view to avoiding a recurrence of such ugly development.
According to Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser (SA) Media and Publicity to the governor, the state helmsman pledged to join hands with the Federal Government, TCN and Kaduna Electricity in order to facilitate the quick restoration of electricity to ameliorate the suffering of the people.
The governor was accompanied by the Hon. Minister of State for Education, Rt. Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu (Dan Madamin Yauri), State Acountant-General, Alhaji Bello Ibrahim Nahaliku, Special Adviser to the Governor on Power, Alhaji Kabiru Sani Giant, Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu and other top government functionaries and they went round the vicinity to have an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged power transmission facility.
It will be recalled that a fire gutted the TCN substation in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday night which resulted in colossal damage to the facility worth millions of naira.
